ADA Dental Terminology Licensing for Commercial Users

ADA maintains two Code Sets as a standardized language to help dentists and other members of the healthcare industry communicate effectively. They are the Code on Dental Procedures and Nomenclature (CDT Code) and the Systematized Nomenclature of Dentistry (SNODENT). These ADA Dental Terminology files are revised and updated every year. ADA licenses the following for commercial use in practice management systems, third-party payer software, coding manuals, seminars and more:
  • CDT
  • SNODENT
  • Consumer-Friendly CDT 2025
  • SNODENT→ICD-10-CM→CDT 2025 (3-way Map)
  • SNODENT→ICD-10-CM (2-way Map)

CDT Books

For accurate and efficient claims handling, dental practices and payers need the latest CDT codes. Many organizations use CDT books alongside their software systems, which do not provide complete descriptors. ADA publishes two coding manuals:

  • CDT 2025: Current Dental Terminology provides the latest updates essential for consistent and precise documentation of services and helps streamline the preparation of claims. Features 10 new codes, 8 revisions and 2 deletions. Includes an e-book and app.
  • CDT 2025 Coding Companion provides more than 200 clinical scenarios and over 270 Q&As that illustrate coding solutions to help improve claims preparation. Includes tables with code changes and summaries of all substantive changes by code and category.

The CDT and CDT Coding Companion books are updated annually by the ADA, the official and definitive source for CDT. Use the most current manuals to minimize reimbursement delays and inaccurate claims.

CDT 2025 Kit

NEW! Consumer-Friendly CDT 2025: Plain Language Terms for Patient Communication

This patient-centered CDT resource uses plain, straightforward language to describe dental procedures in a way that can be easily understood by patients and staff. It includes every CDT code and nomenclature, as well as descriptors when additional context aids in explaining the procedure.

ADA Dental Coding Certificate

Coding inexperience can cost a practice time and money. The ADA Dental Coding Certificate–Assessment-Based CDT Program is intended for dental staff who have limited knowledge of CDT codes and dental claim forms. Offered both live and on demand, the coding course gives a solid foundation of CDT knowledge to improve coding accuracy in your practice or organization. Registrants learn and practice coding skills through realistic scenario-based simulations encountered in a typical workday. Build your team's coding mastery with the ADA!
